Spring ’13 Veggie Garden Update #3

Finally a garden update!! I’ve been meaning to share this for two weeks, I just hadn’t had time to get photos to share. I got inspired today to finally get it up by my friend Cindy! Here is her garden photos she posted today!! I’m so excited to see her garden grow.

My friend Darla has been inspiring me with her garden as well! I cannot believe how fast her artichoke is growing.

Here’s where all my garden beauties are at:

New veggie garden plants! Yay spring!!

Yesterday after work I got a wild hair to go to Armstrong garden center and get some new plants for my veggie garden. My seeds I started probably… a month ago got very beat up by unusually strong Southern California winds last week, the green house tumbled twice, (my bad for not securing it better from the wind) and my poor seedlings the ones I tried to salvage are barely surviving. I will still plant them and hope they make it but I also wait some new ones today!

Armstrongs is my only local place I knew should have some organic veggies and oh boy did they! I got way more than I planned.

I got:
3 kinds of tomatoes
Cilantro
Mint
2 bell peppers
Artichoke
Celery
4 kinds of lettuce (the chickens will love this)
Cucumber
Yellow squash
Purple carrots (I’m so excited about these)
Basil
Snap beans
Watermelon
And
3 kinds of strawberries!

I got part of them in the ground last night and hopefully the rest in the next day or two.

Last week I also got some organic red potatoes and planted them in this awesome faux whiskey barrel!

Now I can use this amazing garden marker rocks Lindsey made for me!!

She even made me three new ones last night when she saw what I bought, hehe I’m a happy girl.

I still cannot get over the detail in them! Especially the bell pepper, wow. Thanks Lindsey!!

Fertilizing seedlings and planting more!

While we were sitting outside Sunday afternoon my roommate decided to fertilize the seedlings. The products we use are by General Organics.

He mixed the concoction up in the watering can and feed the seedlings.

Then we decided to plant some more, he wanted to try some in coco dirt, and I wanted to try some with a little granular fertilizer mixed in.

After we finished planting we moved the greenhouse to a sunnier spot and added out new pots.

Now our greenhouse is getting a bit full!!

Spring ’13 Veggie Garden update

Here’s my first update on our spring 2013 veggie garden a few of our seedlings started popping up and later I want to show you this awesome little greenhouse I just got from Lowe’s!

Hopefully the next week or two here they will all start sprouting!

Right now I’m totally in love with this new little greenhouse Lindsey and i found at Lowe’s!

Oh yeah! Also, my carrots from last spring were finally ready… Well they were probably ready a while back but I never harvested them since the tops hadn’t started dying. But either way the chickens were scratching around in the planter they were in and it reminded me. They looked huge, when I started digging and here’s what i got!

I cannot wait to cook with them! It’s so nice to pick things right out or your garden for dinner, I’m really hoping my garden this year produces a ton more then last year!! We shall see.

Spring 2013 veggie garden

Finally back to my garden! Today I started my spring seeds.

The other day I found seed trays and small plastic starter pots at Dollar Tree (I love that place), I already had lots of seeds, and a bag of organic soil; so I decided to start planting my spring seeds!

I went through my seeds a picked out what I wanted to plant, probably way too much stuff but since I start my seeds in trays outside they don’t always take.

I planted 20 pots and 2-16 hole trays.

So far I planted:

2 kinds of tomato
Tomatillo
Cucumber
Basil blend
Large basil
2 kinds of pumpkins
Yellow squash
Green summer squash
Lots of lettuce (for me and the hens)
Cantaloupe
Watermelon
Quinoa
Cilantro
2 kinds of Corn
Broccoli
Carrot
Cabbage
